NCDMB ES, SPDC Officials Commend Brightwaters Energy’s Capabilities During Facility Tour
The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, alongside senior officials of Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), conducted a facility tour of Brightwaters Energy Limited in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Tuesday.
The visit, which covered Brightwaters’ facilities in Choba and
Emohua, followed an earlier tour by Engr. Ogbe in May 2024, where he pledged NCDMB’s support for indigenous service providers in the oil and gas sector. The latest assessment aimed to evaluate Brightwaters Energy’s enhanced technical capabilities in preparation for upcoming industry projects.
Engr. Ogbe reiterated NCDMB’s commitment to promoting local service companies to ensure their expertise is fully harnessed by major oil and gas operators. He acknowledged Brightwaters’ track record in executing projects for top industry players such as SPDC and Chevron Nigeria Limited and expressed confidence in its ability to handle key scopes in future projects. He urged multinational oil firms to support qualified indigenous companies while maintaining global standards in project execution.
Brightwaters Energy’s Community and Corporate Affairs Manager, Mr. Solomon Aluge, affirmed the firm’s readiness for heavy and light fabrication works, highlighting its extensive experience in onshore and offshore pipeline engineering and installation. He revealed that the company is currently mobilizing for Chevron and Tulcan pipeline projects.
Speaking at the event, Brightwaters’ CEO, Mr. Scott Gregory, welcomed the delegation and assured them of the company’s extensive technical capabilities. He detailed past offshore and onshore projects executed by the company and emphasized its competence in handling upcoming field developments.
During the tour, officials inspected key facilities, including a blast furnace used for smelting operations and the Sea Horizon Derrick Lay Barge, a multipurpose offshore construction vessel with a heavy-lift capacity of 1,320 tons. The vessel is used for marine construction, including installing rigid and flexible pipelines, risers, and umbilicals.
Following the tour, Shell’s General Manager for Local Content, Mr. Lanre Olawuyi, expressed satisfaction with Brightwaters Energy’s upgraded facilities. He noted that Shell’s technical teams would review their findings and explore opportunities to engage the company in future projects. He also commended Brightwaters for its improvements since the last visit and expressed hope that the upgraded facility would attract more industry patronage.
