NCDMB and Butane Energy Expand LPG Accessibility with New Plant in Kaduna
The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and Butane Energy Limited marked a major achievement on Friday by commissioning a new 180-metric-tonne Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Filling Plant in Kaduna, Kaduna State. This initiative advances their mission to make LPG a cleaner, affordable, and readily available cooking fuel across Nigeria.
This facility is the second in a series of planned LPG plants, following the successful launch of a 100MT LPG Storage and Bottling Plant in Katsina State’s Kabukawa Layout in 2021. Together, the plants are part of a joint venture aiming to establish five major LPG facilities across Northern Nigeria, with a combined capacity of 1,000MT. A similar facility in Kano is scheduled for launch in early 2025, while plants in Bauchi and Abuja are also in development.
Speaking at the Kaduna plant commissioning, NCDMB Executive Secretary Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, represented by the Board’s Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Alhaji Abdulmalik Halilu, praised Butane Energy’s progress. He explained that NCDMB’s investment in Butane Energy stems from the company’s strong business model and commitment to increasing gas accessibility in Northern Nigeria. He emphasized that the project aligns with NCDMB’s mandate to support in-country capacity through equity funding, while generating job opportunities and promoting local content. The plant has already created over 200 jobs for Nigerians and stands to create more as operations expand.
Butane Energy Chairman Alhaji Isa Inuwa Muhammed also commended the NCDMB’s role as co-owner and expressed appreciation for the Board’s trust in his company’s vision. Established in 2017, Butane Energy has built a strong distribution network throughout Northern Nigeria and remains dedicated to expanding LPG access across the region.

This project also aligns with the Federal Government’s commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2026, encouraging cleaner alternatives to traditional fuels like kerosene and firewood. The new Kaduna LPG plant exemplifies NCDMB’s third-party investments that support in-country development, foster sustainability, and contribute to a greener future for Nigeria.
