Navy Denounces Allegations of Complicity in Oil Theft

The Nigerian Navy Headquarters has criticized reports from certain media platforms that are critical of its efforts in combating crude oil theft and other illegal activities in Nigeria’s maritime sector.

The condemnation suggests that the Navy is displeased with the portrayal of its actions in these reports and aims to counter any negative narratives regarding its role in maritime security and the fight against illegal activities, particularly in the oil and gas sector.

The Nigerian Navy, through a statement signed by the Director of Information, Rear Admiral A.O Ayo-Vaughan, has highlighted its concern over what it perceives as the negative activities of certain individuals or organizations sponsoring unfounded publications in mainstream and online news platforms.

These publications are said to be critical of the Nigerian Navy’s ongoing efforts to combat crude oil theft and other illegal activities in the country’s maritime sector. The Navy appears to be addressing the issue by refuting these reports and defending its actions in the fight against maritime illegalities.

“It has been observed that their modus operandi includes sourcing the services of third-party agents/sectional egoists to discredit the reinvigorated stance of the NN in the fight against crude oil theft.

“Ordinarily, the NN would not have responded to such baseless assertions, but it has become necessary to prevent gullible members of the public from being misinformed by the erroneous publications.

“Suffice it to state that the NN, in the discharge of its statutory responsibilities as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, will continue to work tirelessly for the betterment of the nation’s maritime security.
