The residents of Minna, Chanchaga and Bosso in Niger on Monday lauded the improvement in electricity supply to their areas by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) checks in the areas indicated that the supply has improved and people are happy with the new development and want it sustained.

Mr Sylvester Bala, Chairman, St. John Road in Chanchaga told NAN that he was surprised at the sudden improvement of power supply during the recent political campaigns and elections.
.
“All the while, we never had good electricity supply but with political campaigns and elections on ground, we now have regular power supply, even up to 24 hours per day. “We want the AEDC to continue with this latest development. “I hope it is not their normal tricks to lure us to vote for them to win elections and they forget us again,” he said.

“We are happy with the latest improvement in electricity supply.

“If they continue the way they are going we will be happy to pay our electricity bills instead of attacking or quarreling with the AEDC staff,” he said.

Mrs Fatima Olariwaju, a Supermarket operator in Bosso, welcomed the development, saying: “It is costly running a supermarket with a generator, sometimes you run at a loss.

“I cannot remember when last I slept with electricity but today we slept with our fans and air conditioners.

“I hope this is for good so that we don’t go back to our old ways,” she said.

“If they pay their electricity bills it will encourage us to serve them better,” he said.

NAN observes that the AEDC is carrying out an enumeration of customers across the state to enable meter distribution companies to distribute pre-paid meters to customers.
