Minister urges urgent digitalisation of government agencies
The urgency of digitalizing government ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) was emphasized by Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy.
Speaking at the Nigeria National Council of ICT Heads of MDAs meeting in Abeokuta on Thursday, Tijani highlighted the importance of digitalization in enhancing governance efficiency, preventing fraud, boosting the economy, and ensuring proper government prioritization.
The meeting aimed to explore strategies for digitalizing government operations across MDAs and other governmental structures in Nigeria. Tijani emphasized the immediate need for ICT infrastructure to facilitate data sharing among government agencies.
Tijani’s vision for achieving digitalization is termed DPI (Digital Public Infrastructure), signaling a comprehensive approach to modernizing government operations through digital technology.
“Sharing of data is not just about fraud; the matter of data sharing in government is about effectiveness.
“If we are sharing data appropriately, we can even know how people are moving between states in Nigeria so that when there is the need to increase the capacity to support people, we can quickly do that seamlessly,” he said.
