Minister Inaugurates NCDMB Governing Council

The Nigerian Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, inaugurated the 4th Governing Council of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) on Thursday.

The NCDMB Council, established under the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act, plays a crucial role in promoting local participation in the oil and gas sector. Its newly appointed members, announced by President Bola Tinubu in December 2023, will be led by Senator Lokpobiri himself, with Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe serving as the Council Secretary.

The diverse Council includes representatives from key institutions like the Nigerian National Petroleum Company, the Nigerian Upstream Regulatory Commission, and the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria.

Minister Urges Council to Deepen Local Content Achievements

Minister Lokpobiri congratulated the Council members, highlighting their expertise and stressing the importance of the NOGICD Act in bringing together various stakeholders to drive positive change in the industry. He acknowledged the NCDMB’s significant achievements over the past 13 years and encouraged the Council to push further, aiming to inspire other African nations looking to emulate Nigeria’s local content model.

He emphasized the critical role the NCDMB plays in developing local skills and infrastructure, enabling Nigerians to actively contribute to the oil and gas sector. He also underscored the unique position of the NCDMB, being one of the few agencies directly chaired by a Minister, reflecting its importance to the national economy.

Council Pledges Continued Progress

Responding on behalf of the Council, Mr. Olorundare Sunday Thomas, CEO of the National Insurance Commission, expressed gratitude for the appointment and pledged to fulfill the responsibilities entrusted to them. He acknowledged the NCDMB’s past successes and the positive impact of local content implementation on the industry and the nation. He assured the Minister and the public of the Council’s commitment to build upon the existing strong foundation and continue driving the NCDMB towards even greater achievements.

This inauguration marks a new chapter for the NCDMB as it continues its mission to foster a thriving and inclusive Nigerian oil and gas sector.
