Marine and Blue Economy 2025 Budget Proposal: A Blueprint for Progress – Oyetola
The Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola CON, has urged agencies under the Ministry to focus on strategic alignment and impactful development in their 2025 budget proposals. This directive aims to advance the goals of the National Policy on Marine and Blue Economy and the 2021-2025 National Development Plan.
Speaking at a budget session with Ministry agencies in Abuja, Oyetola emphasized the need for transparency, fiscal prudence, and measurable impact in resource allocation.
He noted that the fiscal strategy must reflect the ambitions of the policy framework and ensure that every naira allocated delivers tangible results. The Minister expressed confidence that the proposals would catalyze sustainable marine resource management and long-term economic growth, highlighting the sector’s potential for driving economic progress, job creation, and environmental stewardship in line with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Oyetola called for investments to strengthen maritime domain security through improved surveillance systems, operations, and enforcement of maritime laws. He also stressed the importance of enhancing aquaculture capacity, developing fishing ports, and curbing illegal and unregulated fishing activities.
Additionally, he emphasized the need to focus on technological and environmental advancements, including oceanographic research, stock assessments, renewable marine energy, and climate resilience technologies.
The Minister described the draft National Policy on Marine and Blue Economy as a comprehensive roadmap for sustainable management of marine resources, technological innovation, climate adaptation, and enhanced governance.

Key leaders from various agencies, including the Nigeria Ports Authority, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, National Inland Waterways, Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Maritime Academy of Nigeria, and other related institutions, attended the session.
