MAN Advocates Broadening Local Content Beyond Oil and Gas
The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) is urging the expansion of local content initiatives beyond the confines of the oil and gas sector.
During an exclusive interview with Majorwaves on the sidelines of the 12th Practical Nigerian Content (PNC) event in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, themed “Deepening Nigerian Content amidst Divestments, Domestication & Decarbonisation,” the Director-General of MAN, Mr. Segun Ajayi-Kadir, emphasized the need for diversification.
Ajayi-Kadir emphasized the crucial role of a thriving economy in the country’s prosperity. He stressed the importance of equipping indigenous players with the necessary capacities for growth.
He stated, “Expanding local content beyond the oil and gas sector and ensuring prioritization of local content in areas where the government has investment or interest is essential.
The country’s prosperity is contingent on our ability to grow the economy. To achieve this, we must empower indigenous players to increase volumes and expertise, indigenize technology, innovate, and raise the production bar.”
While acknowledging the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) for enhancing local oil and gas industry content, Ajayi-Kadir highlighted the need to extend these initiatives beyond the current scope.
He expressed confidence in the potential benefits for the country if local content participation is broadened to encompass various sectors of the economy.

“I believe that the future lies beyond oil and gas. The Board should lead a process to expand its scope by enhancing existing initiatives or creating new ones to guide diverse economic sectors, similar to what NCDMB has achieved in the oil and gas sector. There are numerous areas where the country can benefit from increased local participation,” said Ajayi-Kadir.
Although Executive Orders 3 and 5 signify the government’s commitment to enhancing local content in other sectors, they have yet to be fully leveraged. Ajayi-Kadir encouraged the government to consider the success of NCDMB as a reference point for the effective implementation of such executive orders.
