The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has reinstated that localising tripping in the power sector chain is not the company’s affair. This is coming against the backdrop of the recent allegation by Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, allegation that the National Grid was highly unstable, with over 2,000 tripping in its network between January and July 2018.
Tripping occurs when the power grid experiences a fault or overload which causes protection switch operation and subsequent interruption in power supply. The causes of power grid trips could be short circuits in power systems, overloading by too large power consumption or failure of generation in power plants.
However, the TCN in a statement signed by the General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, noted that, “The alleged statement was clearly misleading because in the subsequent part of the same report, BEDC claimed significant improvement in its services which could not have been possible if the National Grid was weak as alleged.”
