Local Capacity Development Emphasized by Jimcol in the Era of Energy Transition

Jimcol Resources Nigeria Limited, a homegrown oil and gas service company, underscores the crucial importance of local capacity development as the momentum toward energy transition gains traction.

During an exclusive interview with Majorwaves on the sidelines of the 12th Practical Nigerian Content (PNC) held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, under the theme “Deepening Nigerian Content amidst Divestments, Domestication & Decarbonisation,” Jimcol’s Technical Manager, Preye Birigeni, highlighted the necessity of fostering local skills amid the industry’s shift to renewable energy.

Birigeni noted that Jimcol has played a significant role in enhancing local capacity within the Nigerian oil and gas sector, expressing the company’s dedication to this developmental initiative.

Optimistic about the future, Birigeni stated that, with the support of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), the nation could achieve a commendable 90 percent Nigerian Content in the oil and gas industry.

“The energy industry is transforming from fossil fuel to green energy. Recognizing the need to develop local capacity is imperative to adapt and connect to this change, ensuring that we do not lag behind,” he emphasized.

Jimcol Resources Nigeria Limited has consistently prioritized local capacity development, replacing expats with trained Nigerians in areas where the company operates.

Birigeni expressed confidence that, with continuous efforts and assistance from the NCDMB, the industry could achieve the targeted 90 percent Nigerian Content.
