Lagos to boost Power Supply with 1GW Renewable Energy Project
Lagos state government, has promised ‘Lagosians’ that it would generate 1 gigawatt (GW) of renewable energy to bridge the power supply gap in the state.
The state government noted that increasing available renewable energy would make Lagos a more resilient city and help create more jobs and other benefits.
The Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Olalere Odusote, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Engr Sholabomi Shasore, gave the assurance during a two-day Lagos Urban Design sprint workshop organized by the Lagos State Resilience Office (LASRO).
He noted that the commitment of the state government to renewable energy formed reasons it was picked along with three other cities by the Resilient Cities Network (RCN) to accelerate its equitable energy transition through resilience building efforts.
“Lagos State Government is committed to green energy transition and ensuring universal access to clean, affordable and reliable energy in the state. This is evident in the various policies and strategies aimed at creating an enabling environment for the proliferation of renewable energy technologies,” he stated.
Earlier, the CRO for Lagos, Folayinka Dania, and the Global Director for strategy and Regional Director for Africa, RCN, Dana Omran, noted that the workshop was designed to convince stakeholders on the need to scale renewable energy solutions and provide energy to critical public services in Lagos.
