Lagos Set to Implement Truck Call-Up System at Lekki Port.
During a stakeholders meeting held at the Lekki Free Zone Development, Lagos State Commissioner for Transport, Seun Osiyemi, emphasized the urgency of managing the traffic situation along the axis due to indiscriminate parking by container trucks and tankers on both sides of the road.
Osiyemi highlighted the government’s consideration of utilizing the waterways to evacuate bulk, dry, and liquid cargo from the port as part of the traffic management strategy.
“The only way we can get to the promised land is if we take proactive measures. If we wait for government intervention, the situation will deteriorate, and the expected revenue will be at risk,” Osiyemi stated.
Echoing similar sentiments, Bolatito Ajibode, Deputy Managing Director of Lekki Free Zone Development Company, emphasized the significance of the zone as a viable investment destination, with over 3,000 hectares of available land for use in the area.
Tim Koleolu, Managing Director of Call Up Technology, outlined the implementation strategy for the truck call-up system, which involves unbundling operators of terminals with truck parks within the designated red zone for effective administration and traffic management.
