Kenyon International CEO Advocates for Utilizing Nigeria’s Idle Brownfields to Boost Oil Production and Meet Local Refining Demands

Dr. Victor Ekpenyong, CEO of Kenyon International, has underscored Nigeria’s potential to significantly enhance its oil production and address local refining needs by leveraging its idle brownfields. Speaking at the Oil Well Intervention Conference (OWIWA 2024), West Africa’s premier well intervention event held on May 29, 2024, at the Sheraton Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos, Dr. Ekpenyong emphasized the untapped opportunities within Nigeria’s underutilized or inactive oil fields.

Highlighting the significance of brownfield sites in bolstering Nigeria’s dwindling oil output and refining capacity, especially in the context of downstream sector deregulation and subsidy removal, Dr. Ekpenyong stressed the need for strategic policy alignment, investment, and technological interventions.

“Nigeria possesses a wealth of underutilized brownfield assets that, with the right interventions, can revitalize our oil production capabilities,” remarked Dr. Ekpenyong. “Unlocking these dormant resources not only augments our oil output but also addresses the surging local demand for refined products, reducing import dependence, conserving foreign exchange, and fortifying energy security.”
