A power generating firm, Kano Hydro and Energy Development Company, KHEDCO, Thursday, received two water use licences from the Federal Government for hydro power generation in order to boost electricity supply in the country.
The Executive Director, Nigeria Integrated Water Resources Management Commission, NIWRMC, Reuben Habu, presented the licences to KHEDCO in Abuja. NIWRMC is an agency under the Federal Ministry of Water Resources saddled with the responsibility to regulate commercial use of water by evaluation, inspection, monitoring and licencing operators in the water sector.
According to Habu, the company having met the technical requirements was granted the two licences to generate hydro power. One of the water use licences issued is for the 10 megawatts Tiga hydroelectric power plant station located in Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State. While the second water use licence is for the 6 megawatts Challawa hydroelectric power plant station located in Karaye, Kano State.
