JTF Raids 14 Illegal Refining Sites in Rivers, Vows to Crack Down on Oil Theft
The Joint Task Force (JTF) Operation Delta Safe (OPDS) has launched a major operation against oil theft in the Niger Delta, uncovering 14 illegal refining sites on Ataba Island near Bonny Island in Rivers State.
Led by newly appointed JTF Commander Rear Admiral John Okeke, the raid was conducted based on intelligence reports and involved collaboration with the Navy, Army, Air Force, Police, NSCDC, and the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA).
“Nobody wins alone without collaboration,” declared Okeke, emphasizing his commitment to tackling oil theft with a united front. He warned criminals: “Any form of criminality, we are going to make it very hot for them.”
Describing the scene, Okeke revealed, “What we discovered here is shocking, about 14 massive cooking sites. One of them was still hot, indicating they pulled out just before our arrival.”

This successful operation not only dismantled a major illegal refining operation but also served as a strong message to those involved in oil theft. Okeke advised them to “relocate or go into a legitimate business,” highlighting the support offered by the Nigerian Navy for lawful endeavors.
He concluded with a stern warning: “Those indulging in pipeline vandalism and illegal bunkering, desist from such or you will never find peace.”
