India seeks renewable energy, energy transition partnership with Nigeria.

The Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Shri G. Balasubramanian, has said that the country is interested in partnering with Nigeria in energy transition, renewable energy and playing in offshore fields.

Speaking at the Nigerian Oil and Gas (NOG) Energy Week Conference and Exhibition, Balasubramanian said Nigeria is part of the International Solar Alliance so renewable energy India is playing a big part.

He said, “That is where the future is going, hydrogen storage and other internet-based operations. These are things in which we have been developing some expertise and we will be happy to see how we can collaborate in this sector.

“Asides from that, fintech is something we are working on. There are huge opportunities for both countries to come together and grow together.

“We have a large number of Indian companies, 48 of them have come and exhibited their best here for products related to the oil and gas sector from compressors to converters and some of them are just coming.

“It’s an interesting mix of products that they have and it will be important for the oil and gas companies. They are affordable and in a technologically advanced state. We hope that they would be in a position to find businesses over here which should lead to mutually beneficial cooperation.

“Hopefully, India has become the fifth largest economy in the world in the last nine years that have allowed liberalization and technological advancement through which the economy has been propelled from what it was to what it is today.

“It’s a long way to go for us because we are an emerging economy and there are efforts by the government to support innovation, fintech, and startups. In two years we have had more than 100 unicorn startups; they have attracted more than 1 billion dollars of investment in startups and more than 5000 startups have been created in the last four years all based on IOT and other issues.

“We will be happy to partner with Nigeria in the future to use these innovations. This exhibition is to showcase the innovations in India for mutual benefit.”
