FG and Cross River State Enhance Cooperation to Tackle Illegal Mining.
The Federal Government and Cross River State are intensifying their collaboration to clean up the mining sector and address illegal mining activities within the state.
During a meeting in Abuja, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, welcomed Cross River State Governor, Sen. Bassey Otu, emphasizing the renewed spirit of cooperation aimed at harnessing Nigeria’s mineral resources to boost economic development.
“The governor’s visit exemplifies the kind of collaboration we aim to foster between the federal government and subnational authorities. Our goal is to sanitize the mining sector, secure mining areas, and create a conducive environment for investors,” said Minister Alake.
Governor Otu reiterated Cross River State’s dedication to utilizing its abundant mineral resources for development. He highlighted the critical need for partnering with the Ministry to combat illegal mining operations effectively.
“We need to review the laws and regulations guiding proper mining processes. This will help us make informed decisions in collaboration with the federal government to clean up the mining sector. We are also exploring public-private partnerships (PPP) to tap into our vast solid mineral potential,” Governor Otu stated.
