A don, Professor Sylvester Egwu, has offered advice to the government on how to generate 36, 000 Mega Watts needed to free Nigeria from shackles of the epileptic power supply.

Egwu gave the advice in a press release made available to New Telegraph in Lagos.

He said that the solution “to electric power generation, transmission and distribution is simple.”

The Federal Government as a matter of urgency should, according to him, give priority to generation, which has been hovering around 0-5000MW of electricity for decades with billions of dollars put into it either stolen, shared or misappropriated without results.

“Every state in Nigeria must be given permission to generate 1,000MW of electricity,” he said.

“With the 36-state structure, that will translate to 36,000MW of generated power. Some states may be able to generate more power like Lagos. All generated energy will be channelled to national grids for transmission and distribution. The Federal Government by this arrangement is to provide adequate infrastructures for transmission and distribution in the country.

“It is envisaged that 36,000MW of electricity in Nigeria can trigger an industrial revolution.”

The statement entitled; “Inadequate Energy Supply In Nigeria Responsible For Low Education Quality, Abject Poverty, Crime And Underdevelopment,” Stated; “In the beginning, God said’ Let there be light and there was light’. Other countries of the world today accepted and obeyed God’s command but Nigeria has refused. That is a sin against God.

“Energy is the ability to do work and a motive force that drives the economy of every nation. The more a nation consumes energy the more prosperous that nation is as seen by energy experts. China of 1.4 billion people and the United States of America of 323 million people consume most of the world energy with America consuming nearly one-third of world energy. This is why they are considered prosperous nations with better living conditions and greater opportunities, stable economy, less poverty and a sustainable environment.

“South Africa with a population of 57 million people consumes about 208 billion kWh of electricity, a per capita of 3,708 kWh as Nigeria manages to consume meagre 24 billion kWh with an estimated population of 186 million people, a per capita consumption of 132 kWh. An average South African consumes 28 times more energy than a Nigerian. You can now understand whether xenophobia or not, Nigerians are ready to go and die there.”
