Nigeria and Kenya Lead the Way in Google’s Startups Accelerator Program.
Kenya and Nigeria have emerged as the frontrunners in the latest cohort of the Google for Startups Accelerator Africa program, with the two countries dominating the list of 10 innovative startups selected from across the continent.
Out of the 1,000 applicants, 10 startups were chosen to join the eighth cohort of the accelerator program. Five of these startups are from Nigeria, three from Kenya, with Rwanda and South Africa each contributing one startup.
These startups aim to tackle local challenges through tailored solutions, driving economic growth, creating jobs, and improving the quality of life in their communities. This year’s cohort places a significant emphasis on artificial intelligence, reflecting the growing importance of advanced technologies in solving Africa’s pressing challenges.

The selected startups will participate in a two-month structured program running from July 29 to September 20, 2024. During this period, they will receive direct access to Google mentors and seasoned entrepreneurs. The program includes technical workshops designed to help the startups refine their products, sharpen their business strategies, and strengthen their entrepreneurial skills.
Since its launch in 2018, the Google for Startups Accelerator Africa program has supported 106 startups from 17 African countries. Collectively, these startups have raised over $263 million and created more than 2,800 direct jobs, underscoring the program’s significant impact on the continent’s tech ecosystem.
