George Onafowokan Honored with Rare NSE Fellowship
George Onafowokan, Managing Director of Coleman Wires and Cables Industries Limited, has been awarded an Honorary Fellowship by the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE). This prestigious accolade is a rare honor, as fewer than 20 non-engineers have received it in the organization’s 34-year history.
In a statement on Monday, Onafowokan expressed his gratitude, describing the recognition as a testament to his passion and dedication to the engineering field. “This recognition is a reflection of years of commitment to enriching the engineering landscape, driven by my passion for the industry,” he said.
With 24 years at Coleman, Onafowokan has cultivated extensive expertise in electrical, electronics, and automation engineering. He highlighted how these core engineering principles have not only shaped his career but also contributed to the growth of Coleman and Nigeria’s industrial sector.
Onafowokan also revealed his selective approach to accolades, noting that he has declined several awards in the past.

“This is a rare honour. It is truly a great recognition for me and for Coleman,” he remarked. “I have turned down many awards in my life. Recognition should come from your peers and respected institutions, not be self-bestowed.”
Looking forward, Onafowokan reaffirmed his commitment to advancing engineering standards and fostering technological innovation.
