FG Warns Organisers of Hunger Protest Against Violence.
The Federal Government has urged the promoters of the proposed nationwide hunger protests to pursue dialogue rather than resorting to disorder. The government emphasized its commitment to engaging with stakeholders on the country’s economic, social, and political challenges.
Mallam Lanre Issa Onilu, the director-general of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), made this known in a statement issued to newsmen in Abuja. He revealed that the agency’s nationwide structure had successfully identified the sponsors of the proposed protest and likely flashpoints. The government is taking measures to prevent any violent occurrences in these identified locations.
“The channels of communication with the government and its various arms remain open for dialogue,” Onilu stated. “The government will continue to respect citizens’ rights to protest and associate freely in line with democratic principles.”
Onilu stressed that many of the protest’s organizers and their collaborators, who are safely residing abroad, have been identified. He indicated that the government is taking necessary actions to thwart their subversive plans.
He claimed that the protest’s intentions were not about governance or the state of the economy but rather a decoy to destabilize the country, cause mayhem, and carry out arson, killings, and maiming of innocent citizens for narrow political reasons.

NOA is intensifying efforts in civil intelligence gathering and sensitizing community leaders, parents, and youths across the 774 local governments on the need for vigilance and collective preventive actions.
He added that another objective of the protest is to project a picture of an unstable country to the international community as part of a grand design to intimidate the government and seek patronage from larger sponsors of the planned protest.
