FG May Initiate Another Staff Audit of NNPC

There are strong indications that the Federal government may further initiate another staff audit of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) given the controversy that have trail the recent employment of graduate trainee by the corporation.
Though NNPC had already disclosed that it has currently in it’s employment a total of 6,621 staff. This includes those at the headquarters, all subsidiaries, divisions and offices nationwide.
The Corporation also explained the parametres for employment as well as career progression in the corporation, using the recently concluded Graduate Trainee employment process as well as top Management promotion exercise executed by the corporation as an illustration
According to NNPC, unblemished academic competence, logical thinking, ability to engage meaningfully in problem solving in addition to federal character are key to becoming an employee of the corporation.
To progress in the Management cadre NNPC said that professional competence, accountability and transparency as well as ensuring national spread in top management positions are critical factors that are not negotiable.
On its staff strength, NNPC made a disclosure in its report of compliance with the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) Open Data requirements that it’s staff strength also includes 1,050 fresh graduates recruited in February.

The three refineries – Kaduna, Port Harcourt, Warri – have 1,898 staff, representing 28.7 percent of NNPC’s total workforce.
1,869 staff, comprising 28.2 percent, are involved in Operations Engineering in all Divisions and Strategic Business Units (SBU).
It is followed by Human Resources, with 818 staff (12.35 percent), while 684 staff – Health, Safety and Environment Officers – represents 10.3 percent of the workforce.
