The Federal Government has flagged off the construction of a 10 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCF/D) Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Mother Station by Nsik Oil and Gas Limited in Uquo Isi Edoho, Esit Eket Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, who represented President Bola Tinubu, described the project as a crucial part of the administration’s Renewed Hope Initiative. He noted that the initiative aims to provide cleaner, more affordable energy alternatives, reducing reliance on petrol and promoting sustainable energy solutions. Ekpo applauded Nsik Oil and Gas for championing private-sector-led investments, emphasizing their importance in advancing Nigeria’s energy transition.

Highlighting the Federal Government’s dedication to the gas sector, the Minister revealed that over N200 billion has been invested so far, with an additional N400 billion expected to be injected in the coming months. He called on local entrepreneurs to seize emerging opportunities in the sector to foster economic growth. Commending the company for choosing Esit Eket as the project site, Ekpo described the move as strategic for balanced development across Akwa Ibom State.

The Minister assured that the project will generate employment for local youths and provide a much-needed economic boost in light of the fuel subsidy removal. He urged the host community to maintain peace, creating a conducive environment for investment. According to him, the project will transform Esit Eket into a thriving economic hub, lower gas prices, and offer Nigerians an affordable, cleaner alternative to petrol, which now costs around N900 per liter. Ekpo reiterated the government’s commitment to making gas a central pillar of Nigeria’s economic growth and energy security.

In his remarks, Chairman and CEO of Nsik Oil and Gas Limited, Mr. Nsikan Johnny, expressed gratitude to the Federal and Akwa Ibom State Governments, as well as stakeholders, for their support. He described the project as a bold move towards achieving energy security and economic empowerment in line with President Tinubu’s vision for a prosperous Nigeria. Johnny emphasized the transformative impact of the CNG Mother Station on sectors such as transportation, industry, and domestic energy consumption. He pledged that the local community would benefit through job creation, business empowerment, and lower energy costs.

Providing a technical overview, Project Consultant Mr. Mkposong Asuquo described the facility as a major step toward increasing indigenous participation in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry. He highlighted that the station will be equipped with four reciprocating compressors to fill specialized tube trailers for gas distribution across Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Delta, Cross River, and parts of Abia State. Asuquo confirmed that all necessary approvals, environmental assessments, and licenses have been secured, ensuring smooth execution.
