The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), Osogbo Field Office, says it will sensitise 400 stakeholders in oil and gas business in Osun to enable them embrace safety practices during operations.

Mr Olusegun Daboh, DPR Operations Controller in the state, made the disclosure on Tuesday in Osogbo.

Daboh said the department had concluded plans to hold its Annual General Meeting, where all oil and gas marketers would be sensitised to safety practices to avoid fire outbreaks.

The controller, who decried frequent gas explosion in the country, said the stakeholders’ meeting slated for March 19, would educate delegates on how to adhere strictly to safety procedures.

Daboh said DPR, as a regulatory agency in the oil and gas industry, it would continue to clamp down on all illegal gas plants in the state.

He said more than 400 delegates from 16 Local Government Area in the state would be sensitised to safety practices in oil and gas business.

Daboh said members of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria, Nigeria Association of Liquefied, among others were expected at the event.

The controller, who gave the theme of the sensitisation meeting as: ‘‘Safety Practices in Oil and Gas Industry: Our Civic Obligations,’’ said experts in the industry would deliver lectures at the event.

Daboh said DPR Director, Sarki Auwalu, would attend the meeting, while Gov. Gboyega Oyetola of Osun would be the Special Guest of honour.
