Expert urges FG to fix Ajaokuta steel, power sector.
The NCD Manager at MG Vowgas Group, David Editang, has advised the federal government to fix Ajaokuta steel in order to address the frustration of manufacturers in the country.
Speaking at the Nigerian Oil and Gas (NOG) Energy Week Conference and Exhibition, Editang said the new administration should look at how to make steel accessible because it is needed to fabricate structures.
Editang said, “An epidemic in the country is power and steel it has been a recurring decimal in our space and if the government does not fix it up it will frustrate manufacturers.
“The new administration should look at how to make steel accessible because it is needed to fabricate structures. We have Ajaokuta steel, how do we patronize that? The power, what is the government doing about that?
“I think we need to look at the unbundling of the ministry of power. When we look at the Ministry of petroleum resources, is there a way for us to unbundle petroleum from gas where we have the minister exclusively for gas, petrol, and also power?

“Can we unbundle it so that we have a minister that can take action in these parastatals independently and report to the president? I think that will be more effective.
“The narrative around this doesn’t mean that we should pull out fossils from our trajectory. We should keep that in focus but for our company we are moving to gas and you know Nigeria has a problem which is the refining, so we are looking at all of this and this is what makes up our plans. Our subsidiaries are using this as a venture. For me, we should make the talk work.”
