Equatorial Guinea Hydrocarbons Minister Joins South Sudan Energy Summit, Pushes for Collaboration in the Petroleum Sector

Equatorial Guinea’s Minister of Mines and Hydrocarbons, Antonio Oburu Ondo, is slated to attend the South Sudan Oil & Power (SSOP) conference and exhibition this June.

The minister hopes to leverage on the country’s experience as an innovative oil and gas producer to enhance intra-African cooperation and trade.

The 6th edition of the Conference will see H.E. Minister Ondo participate in sessions and networking forums aimed at strengthening dialogue and promoting Africa as the energy investment destination of choice for 2023 and beyond.

H.E. Minister Ondo brings with him a wealth of experience as the former Managing Director of the country’s national oil company, GEPetrol, and the Minister of Mines and Hydrocarbons.

With South Sudan looking towards accelerating exploration and production further and with a focus on advancing regional cooperation and partnerships, H.E. Minister Ondo’s participation at SSOP 2023 further cements the role knowledge sharing and collaboration plays in developing a competitive upstream market.

On the regional level, South Sudan is tilting attention towards consolidating its position as the engine of East African growth, leveraging its position as the only major oil producer in the region to drive investment and development across the East African energy value chain.

Equatorial Guinea’s agenda of establishing itself as a regional Gas Mega Hub offers new opportunities for collaboration and insights. The country’s success as a major producer stems from its ability to unlock stranded assets in regional offshore basins, leveraging multilateral partnerships to develop hydrocarbons.

“SSOP is where energy deals are made in 2023. As global interest in South Sudan’s energy market continues to grow and the country enters into a new stage of development, the country stands to benefit from the insights and best practices of other energy majors like Equatorial Guinea.

“We look forward to having H.E. Minister Antonio Oburu Ondo join SSOP 2023,” stated James Chester, Senior Director of SSOP event organizer Energy Capital & Power.
