Eni Makes Major Oil and Gas Discovery Off Mexico Coast.
Italian energy group Eni has announced a significant oil and gas discovery in the Sureste Basin, approximately 63 kilometers off the coast of Mexico. The discovery was made in an exploration well known as Block 9, which has an estimated 300-400 million barrels of oil equivalent (Mboe) of oil and associated gas in place, according to a statement released by the company on Monday.
Eni and Spanish company Repsol each hold a 50% stake in the Block 9 joint venture. This latest discovery adds to a series of successful finds in other Eni-operated blocks within the Gulf of Mexico.
“The overall estimate of resources in place currently exceeds 1.3 billion barrels of oil equivalent (Bboe), which allows Eni to advance with the studies towards a potential future hub development,” Eni stated.
