Energy Commission to Intensify Clean Cooking Campaigns.

The Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting the adoption of clean cooking solutions across all six geopolitical zones of the country. Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, the Director-General of ECN, made this declaration at the conclusion of a two-day training on gender sensitisation organized for women by the Commission in Abuja.

Abdullahi emphasized that this campaign is part of the Commission’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions and address energy challenges, thereby mitigating the impact of climate change as Nigeria has committed to. The sensitization campaign, initiated by the ECN boss in early March in Kurudu, FCT, aims to equip rural women with more efficient and cost-effective clean cookstove technology.

“We have just completed the pilot phase in the Kurudu axis, and our goal is to extend this sensitization to all six geopolitical zones,” Abdullahi stated. “This is part of ECN’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and addressing energy challenges across various sectors. We hope to make a significant impact on domestic cooking appliances.”

Abdullahi encouraged active participation from the women, urging them to ask questions and provide feedback to facilitate continuous improvement. “We value your feedback, which will enable us to enhance the technology we have adopted for these cookstoves,” he added, highlighting the evolving nature of technology.
