Seaports Deserted as Nationwide #EndBadGovernance Protests Sweep Across Nigeria.

Nigeria’s seaports have fallen silent as widespread #EndBadGovernance protests sweep across the nation, with demonstrators demanding an end to economic hardship and poor governance. The protests, which began on August 1, 2024, in major cities, are set to continue until August 15.

Cities such as Lagos, Abuja, Kano, and Port Harcourt have seen large crowds take to the streets, leading to a near halt in operations at the usually bustling seaports. Port users, wary of the escalating protests, have largely stayed away, leaving seaports like Apapa, Tin Can, Onne, and Port Harcourt eerily quiet despite a heavy security presence.

The protests are being driven by a coalition of youths, students, and civil society organizations who have flooded the streets to voice their dissatisfaction with President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies. The demonstrators are calling on the President to urgently review or abandon policies they believe have deepened the economic struggles faced by the majority of Nigerians.
