EKEDC Enhances Power Supply with Nigeria’s First 2×20 MVA Substations in Surulere. 

In a groundbreaking development for Nigeria’s power sector, the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has inaugurated two 20 MVA injection substations at Randle Mechanic Village, Surulere, Lagos, operated under the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) franchise. These projects mark a significant stride towards bolstering power distribution in the Surulere region, a collaboration facilitated by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and EKEDC.

During the commissioning ceremony, Governor Sanwo-Olu lauded Gbajabiamila’s efforts in spearheading these initiatives, recognizing their potential to positively impact residents’ lives. He emphasized the state government’s commitment to creating an environment conducive to reliable power supply, setting a goal to eliminate darkness across Lagos in under two years.

Addressing the audience on behalf of the Governor, Mr. Biodun Ogunleye, Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, reiterated the importance of cooperation with DisCos (Distribution Companies) and urged residents to fulfill their responsibilities by paying bills promptly and refraining from actions that hinder effective power distribution.

Representing Femi Gbajabiamila, Senator Wasiu Eshinlokun highlighted the substantial progress made through public-private partnerships in ensuring sustainable power supply. He emphasized the role of collaboration in achieving national development goals, praising the efforts of all stakeholders involved in the successful completion of the substations.

The commissioning event underscored the government’s dedication to resolving electricity challenges, with Gbajabiamila stressing the need for citizens to safeguard electricity infrastructure within their communities. Mr. Oritsedere Otubu, Chairman of EKEDC, expressed confidence that the new substations would enhance power supply reliability and contribute to socio-economic growth in Lagos.
