Egbin Power Strengthens Safety Standards with ISPON Certification for Employees

Egbin Power has demonstrated a strong commitment to safety excellence as 28 of its employees were inducted as certified members of the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON). This certification, following an intensive training, assessment, and screening by ISPON, underscores Egbin Power’s dedication to fostering a skilled workforce grounded in top-tier safety practices.

During the induction ceremony at the Egbin Power Plant, the Head of Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE), Julius Akpong, highlighted that these certifications reinforce the GenCo’s dedication to safety and professionalism. “We believe that by empowering our workforce, we can create a safer and more productive work environment. Safety is ingrained in our company culture and is a responsibility we all share,” he said.

ISPON’s National President, Kaizer Ebiwari, praised Egbin Power and the inductees, emphasizing that certified members are now equipped to champion safety awareness both within the company and in their broader communities. The knowledge gained from ISPON certification, he noted, will be instrumental in advancing safety across Nigeria’s power industry.

The certification training, equivalent to ISPON Level 3, was delivered in collaboration with Egbin Power’s Learning Academy, which provides employees with continuous, specialized training to meet the evolving needs of the company. This accomplishment not only validates Egbin Power’s dedication to safety excellence but also aligns with the ISPON Act 2014, which mandates rigorous safety standards and practices across Nigeria.

Representing Egbin’s management, Head of HR Gabriel Nkanga commended the ISPON program as a critical step forward for Egbin’s safety objectives. Inductee Esther Adediji from the QHSE Department expressed excitement, noting that the certification empowers her to contribute further to Egbin’s safety culture and industry-wide initiatives
