Driving NNPC Ltd Transformation: EVP Gas, Power & New Energy Emphasizes Transparency, Research, and Innovation
Mr. Olalekan Ogunleye, the Executive Vice President of Gas, Power, and New Energy at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPC), has highlighted transparency, accountability, research, technology, and innovation as fundamental drivers of the company’s ongoing transformation.
During a panel session at the 2024 CERAWeek Conference in Houston, USA, hosted by NNPC Ltd, Ogunleye emphasized the importance of these factors in shaping the company’s future trajectory. The session, themed “Africa’s Energy Future: Access, Investment & Sustainability,” underscored NNPC’s commitment to modernizing operations under Mr. Mele Kyari’s leadership, leveraging technology to enhance competitiveness globally.
Ogunleye noted that since the enactment of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) in 2021, NNPC Ltd has evolved into a transparent and accountable integrated commercial entity. These core values are crucial as the company moves towards a potential Initial Public Offering (IPO) at the stock exchange.
“NNPC Ltd has prioritized transparency, accountability, and performance excellence over the past five years, setting high standards crucial for our journey ahead,” Ogunleye remarked, highlighting the commercial appeal these values bring to partners and investors.
He expressed confidence in NNPC Ltd’s IPO readiness efforts, anticipating a successful launch once finalized. Ogunleye also highlighted NNPC’s pivotal role in Nigeria’s gas commercialization and flare elimination initiatives, emphasizing gas as a vital resource for Africa’s economic and industrial progress.
As the continent’s largest energy company with vast resources and market influence, NNPC Ltd remains committed to delivering shareholder value through continual process improvements aligned with global best practices. Ogunleye urged industry stakeholders to champion gas advocacy, positioning it as a cornerstone for sustainable economic growth and improved living standards across Africa.
Joining Ogunleye on the panel were energy experts including Daniel Berkove from S&P Global, Emmanuel Mugagga from Uganda National Oil Company, and Benjamin Kweku Acolatse from Ghana National Petroleum Corporation.
