Mr Abdullah Abawa, the Operations Controller, Gombe field office, made the call during a stakeholders meeting in the state on Thursday.

He said that petroleum products distribution was very strategic to the economy and security of the country, being a driver of other sectors.

According to him, the DPR will continue to ensure that the petroleum sector is environmentally friendly, safely managed and operates according to international best practices.

He said that sanctions were available for operators who default in their operations, to serve as deterrent to others.

“We urge you, as businessmen and women, to align your business value to reflect integrity and the sanctity of human lives and the environment,” Abawa said.

He said that there would be continuous collaboration with relevant stakeholders in ensuring that petroleum products get to Nigerians at the appropriate price and quality.

Mr Samson Ayoola, a resource person and a consultant with Foisi Global International, said the meeting was to create and promote awareness on how to use petroleum products and the LPG safely.

He said that this would help to enhance business, save more lives and improve the environment.

Ayoola urged the stakeholders to always comply with the rules and regulations for business continuity.

He advised the DPR to translate some of the basic techniques for safety into local languages for people to understand.

Steven Manaja, the General Manger, State Urban and Development Board, appealed to the DPR to make their bylaw available to government MDAs to ensure total compliance.

He also advised the state fire service to be proactive in providing services with respect to safety of lives.
