Delta State Celebrates Remarkable 80% Decrease in Oil Theft, Emphasizes Community Engagement and Infrastructure Development
ABUJA, Nigeria – In a significant turn of events, Ayiri Emami, CEO of A & E Group and a prominent member of the APC, has reported an impressive 80% reduction in oil theft in Delta State. The success is attributed to the collaborative efforts of local communities and a strategic shift towards active engagement rather than merely combatting criminal activities.
Mr. Emami, following a meeting with President Bola Tinubu, expressed optimism about the positive impact of involving stakeholders in finding sustainable solutions. “To some extent, we’re doing good in Delta, and some of these communities, the actors are being carried along,” he asserted.
The key focus of the success lies in community engagement, with Emami advocating for a holistic approach that addresses the root causes of oil theft. He emphasized that the fight against oil theft cannot be fully won without addressing the underlying issues faced by these communities. Crucially, Emami stressed the dire need for infrastructure development, including roads, water, electricity, and hospitals.
“We still want them to do more. Not just giving contracts, these people need good roads, good water, electricity, good hospital,” Emami emphasized during his meeting with President Tinubu.
While celebrating the remarkable reduction in oil theft, Emami urged collaboration with the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) and the federal government, considering it crucial for sustained progress. He believes that proper infrastructure is indispensable for effectively curbing criminal activities in the region.
The meeting between Emami and President Tinubu covered various pertinent issues, including infrastructure development. Emami urged the President to fulfill his campaign promise of constructing the Warri-Escravos road, deemed vital for the region’s overall development.
Additionally, he advocated for dredging Koko and Warri Ports to improve maritime flow and economic activity, suggesting the need to address obstacles such as pipelines hindering these efforts.
President Tinubu responded positively, offering hope for progress. He instructed the Niger Delta Minister to prioritize the construction of the Warri-Escravos road, committed to liaising with the NNPCL GMD to address the Koko Port pipeline issue, and promised further engagement with the Petroleum Minister for consultation.
