Dangote Refinery Readies for Production: Sixth Batch of Crude Oil Barrels Received from NNPCL Signals Operation Kick-off
Dangote Refinery is gearing up for the production of refined petroleum products with the recent receipt of its sixth batch of crude oil barrels from the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL). This fresh delivery of one million Agbami barrels of crude via MT ALMI SUN completes the scheduled 6 million barrels consignment required to commence operations at the world’s largest single-train refinery.
A month ago, the refinery received its initial one million barrels of Agbami crude grade from Shell International Trading and Shipping Company Limited (STASCO), a global trading giant handling over 8 million barrels of crude oil daily.
In the following weeks, Dangote Refinery continued to receive one million barrels of crude oil in batches, culminating in the latest 6 million barrels discharge at the Single Point Mooring (SPM-C2) at the Dangote Offshore Oil Terminal (DOOT).
Managing Director of Dangote Ports Operations, Akin Omole, confirmed that the refinery aims to collect the entire 6 million barrels before the end of January, setting the stage for operational commencement. Omole stated, ‘Once the 6 million barrels are fully delivered, it will facilitate the initial run of the refinery and kick-start the production of diesel, aviation fuel, and LPG before subsequently progressing to the production of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).’
This significant development is expected to play a pivotal role in addressing fuel supply challenges faced by Nigeria and West African countries.
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery, designed for 100% Nigerian crude with flexibility to process various African and international crude grades, boasts a daily processing capacity of 650,000 barrels. Positioned to meet 100% of Nigeria’s refined product requirements, including gasoline, diesel, kerosene, and aviation jet, the refinery also holds a surplus available for export.
Strategically located in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, the refinery features state-of-the-art facilities, including truck loading gantries capable of handling 2,900 trucks daily. The self-sufficient marine facility accommodates the largest vessels globally. All products from the refinery adhere to Euro V specifications, and it complies with international emission norms set by the US EPA, European authorities, Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), and the African Refiners and Distribution Association (ARDA).
