Dangote Refinery Suspends Petroleum Sales in Naira

Dangote Refinery has temporarily halted the sale of petroleum products in Naira, citing the need to align its sales proceeds with crude oil purchase obligations, which are currently denominated in U.S. dollars.

In a statement released by the company, Dangote Refinery explained that its sales of petroleum products in Naira had exceeded the value of Naira-denominated crude it received. As a result, the refinery said it must temporarily adjust its sales currency to match its crude procurement currency.

The statement also addressed rumors circulating online that suggested loading activities were being halted due to an incident of ticketing fraud. The refinery dismissed these claims as “malicious falsehoods,” assuring that its operational systems remain secure and that there have been no fraud-related issues.

Despite the temporary shift, Dangote Refinery reaffirmed its commitment to serving the Nigerian market efficiently and sustainably. The company assured that once it receives an allocation of Naira-denominated crude cargoes from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), it will promptly resume petroleum product sales in Naira.

The refinery called for public understanding and cooperation during this period, emphasizing that the move is necessary to ensure continued stability in its operations.
