Dangote Foundation Donates N15 Billion in Rice to Combat Hunger Across Nigeria
The Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has launched a massive food intervention program valued at N15 billion to support vulnerable Nigerians facing economic hardship. The initiative involves distributing over one million 10kg bags of rice across all 774 local government areas in the country.
Flags Off in Kano and Lagos
President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, personally attended the launch ceremonies in both Kano and Lagos. In Kano, where 120,000 bags were distributed, Dangote emphasized his commitment to assisting the government in alleviating poverty. He highlighted the importance of compassion and solidarity during Ramadan, urging all stakeholders to collaborate in tackling hunger.
Focus on Compassion and Solidarity
“Our distribution of rice symbolizes our commitment to upholding the values of compassion and solidarity, which are at the core of our humanity,” stated Dangote. The ADF will spearhead the program, running from March to early April 2024.
Appreciation from State Governors
Both Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, and Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, expressed their gratitude to Dangote for his philanthropic efforts. Governor Yusuf urged other wealthy Nigerians to emulate Dangote’s generosity, while Governor Sanwo-Olu commended the Foundation’s commitment to the welfare of the people.
Transparent Distribution
The ADF is partnering with credible NGOs, civil society organizations, and religious bodies to ensure the rice reaches the most vulnerable populations across all states and local governments.
Foundation’s Broader Efforts
Fatima Dangote, Group Executive Director at Dangote Industries Limited, highlighted other ongoing initiatives by the foundation. These include providing 2,500 loaves of bread daily across Lagos, a program that began during the COVID-19 pandemic, and offering daily meals for the past 35 years in Kano.
Inspiring Others to Help
While the Dangote Foundation has a history of charitable work, increased publicity for this initiative aims to inspire others to join the fight against hunger in Nigeria.
