Dangote Expresses Gratitude to Tinubu and Nigerians as Refinery Production Commences
Aliko Dangote, the President of Dangote Group, expressed his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his vision and support in the successful commencement of the production of refined petroleum products by the Dangote Petroleum Refinery.
Dangote conveyed his appreciation during discussions with stakeholders in the oil and gas industry, highlighting the historic significance of the domestic refining of petroleum products in Nigeria.
Dangote thanked President Tinubu, the Federal Government, its agencies, and all Nigerians for their belief in him and support for the mega project, despite facing various challenges. He recalled the support, encouragement, and thoughtful advice he received from President Tinubu throughout the realization of the refinery project.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in his New Year’s Day address to Nigerians, indicated that both the Federal Government and the citizens were eagerly anticipating the commencement of production at the Dangote and Port Harcourt refineries.
This expectation is linked to the potential relief in fuel supply and pricing after the removal of fuel subsidy, with the hope that increased local refining capacity will alleviate hardships for citizens.
Aliko Dangote specifically expressed gratitude to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Limited), the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) for their support and belief in the historic Dangote Petroleum Refinery project.
This acknowledgment underscores the collaborative efforts between the private sector and regulatory bodies in advancing crucial projects that contribute to the country’s economic development.
According to Dangote, “I want to thank President Bola Tinubu for his support and for making our dream come true. This production, as witnessed today, would not have been possible without his visionary leadership and prompt attention to detail. His intervention at various stages cleared all impediments thereby accelerating the actualisation of the project.
“I also want to express my appreciation to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority for their support.
These organizations have been our dependable partners in this historic journey. We also thank Nigerians for their belief and support in this project. We have started the production of diesel and aviation fuel, and the products will be in the market within this month once we receive regulatory approvals.”
“This is a big day for Nigeria. significant milestone. This is an image delighted to have reached this important achievement for our country as it demonstrates our ability to develop and deliver large capital projects. This is a game changer for our country, and I am very fulfilled with the actualization of this project,” he added.
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has received six million barrels of crude oil at its two Single Point Mooring (SPM) systems located 25 kilometers from the shore. The first crude delivery occurred on December 12, 2023, with the sixth cargo delivered on January 8, 2024.
The refinery is equipped with the capacity to load 2,900 trucks per day at its truck-loading gantries. The products manufactured by the refinery will adhere to Euro V specifications.
Notably, the refinery’s design aligns with international standards, including those set by the World Bank, US EPA, European emission norms, and Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) emission/effluent norms, incorporating state-of-the-art technology.
