The Standard Organisation of Nigeria has advised members of the public to use only certified hand sanitizers to avoid skin damages. It also promises to sanction manufacturers of hand sanitizers and liquid hand wash which fail to conform to global best practices.

In a statement on Monday, the regulatory body said in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, quality hand sanitizers are important and it will “not tolerate any minus in standards”.

SON urged consumers to always insist on patronising only hand sanitizers certified by SN to avoid harmful effects to their skin while also getting value for their hard-earned money.

“Quality hand sanitizers and liquid hand wash are some of the critical tools to battle the virus. Hand-washing with soap and water is one of the most important steps that can be taken to avoid getting sick and spreading the virus to loved ones,” it stated.

This is in line with the guidelines released by WHO stating that regular washing of hands with Liquid hand wash and use of alcohol based sanitizers regularly will help curb the spread of the virus.

SON implored manufacturers to visit its offices to get the accepted standards for production of goods in the country, adding that it will support businesses that have public health safety at heart.
