CISLAC Urges President Tinubu to Fulfill Promises, Calls for Dialogue and Improved Governance

The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) has called on President Bola Tinubu to demonstrate stronger commitment in addressing Nigeria’s pressing socio-economic and political challenges. In a statement released on the occasion of the country’s 64th Independence Anniversary, CISLAC urged the President to prioritize meaningful dialogue and take decisive action on his promises to the nation.

Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, Executive Director of CISLAC, expressed concern over the lack of progress in fulfilling the President’s pledge for comprehensive engagement with Nigerians, including the youth. Rafsanjani pointed out that despite promises made during Tinubu’s Independence Day address, no framework or clear timeline has been established for these crucial discussions.

“We urge the President to go beyond rhetoric and take concrete steps toward genuine dialogue with Nigerians. The public is seeking immediate relief from the harsh economic and social conditions they endure daily under this administration. Swift and impactful measures are needed to improve the quality of life and security for all citizens,” Rafsanjani stated.

CISLAC also stressed the urgency of restoring Nigeria’s tarnished international reputation. The organization noted that Nigeria, once respected on the global stage, has seen its image deteriorate due to issues such as terrorism, corruption, and mismanagement of public resources.

“Nigeria’s image needs immediate restoration. We were once a respected nation, but today, we are viewed as a hub for terrorism and corruption. The government’s inability to effectively address these issues, including rescuing those in captivity and combating systemic corruption, has eroded our standing both domestically and internationally,” the statement continued.

The group further called on President Tinubu to adopt a more serious and results-driven approach to governance, emphasizing that Nigeria’s challenges—ranging from insecurity and poverty to economic instability and democratic setbacks—demand urgent and comprehensive solutions.

“The Nigerian people deserve leadership that is responsive, accountable, and capable of delivering development and prosperity. As we celebrate 64 years of independence, we must work together to restore the dignity of our nation, both at home and abroad,” Rafsanjani added.

CISLAC reaffirmed its dedication to advocating for transparency, accountability, and good governance, urging the government to intensify its efforts in tackling the critical issues facing the country.
