Chevron Nigeria Welcomes New Chairman/Managing Director

Jim Swartz has been appointed as the Chairman and Managing Director of Chevron Nigeria/Mid-Africa Business Unit, effective April 1, 2024, by Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL), the joint venture operator between the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited and CNL.

Before this role, Swartz served as the Vice President, of Capital Projects, situated in Houston, USA. His appointment is attributed to his notable expertise in the upstream business and his proven capability to forge successful stakeholder partnerships.

Having graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a Bachelor of Science in Geology, Jim Swartz further pursued his academic endeavors by obtaining a Master of Science in Geology from the University of Oklahoma.

In 1990, Jim Swartz commenced his career with Chevron as a Geologist in Louisiana and has subsequently progressed through various roles with increasing responsibility in Angola and the United States.

Jim Swartz takes over the role from Richard (Rick) Kennedy, who has chosen to retire after nearly 40 years of dedicated service to the company.

During his tenure as the Chairman and Managing Director of Chevron Nigeria/Mid-Africa Business Unit, Rick’s thoughtful and collaborative leadership played a pivotal role in enhancing business outcomes.

Additionally, he made substantial contributions to the Nigerian oil and gas industry while serving as the Chairman of the Oil Producers Trade Section (OPTS) of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI). In this capacity, he led industry engagements on crucial matters such as the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) and other significant industry initiatives.

In his role as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta (PIND), Rick Kennedy demonstrated a steadfast commitment to fostering peace and driving socio-economic development in the region.
