Chevron Reaffirms Commitment to Transparent Recruitment Process

Lagos, Nigeria – Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL), the operator of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and CNL Joint Venture, has refuted claims made in a recent online publication alleging bias in its recruitment process.

In a statement, CNL described the allegations as misleading and unfounded, particularly dismissing the claim that a so-called “General Manager of EGP” played a role in obstructing the employment of graduates under the Vocational Training Program (VTP) and Operations Training Program (OTP). The company clarified that no such position exists within its organizational structure.

Commitment to a Transparent Recruitment Process

CNL emphasized that its recruitment process is strictly merit-based, ensuring equal opportunities for all qualified candidates without external interference. The company reaffirmed its stance as an equal opportunity employer, encouraging qualified candidates from communities near its operations to apply for available positions.

Clarification on the VTP and OTP Programs

Addressing concerns regarding past training programs, CNL explained that the VTP and OTP were corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives designed to enhance skills and capacity-building for selected beneficiaries across Nigeria. These programs were not recruitment pathways into CNL, and no employment guarantees were made to participants.

Commitment to Community Development

Reaffirming its dedication to social responsibility, CNL stated its ongoing commitment to engaging with community stakeholders and fostering socio-economic development through various initiatives. The company assured that it would continue working with partners to maintain peace and contribute positively to Nigeria’s energy sector.

With this clarification, CNL aims to dispel misinformation and reinforce its commitment to fairness, transparency, and community engagement in its operations.
