Building gas sustainability is the future of Nigeria, says Maduforo.
As Nigeria is gradually moving to increase the use of gas, the Country Manager of James Fisher Nigeria, Prospect Maduforo, has said that building a sustainable energy sector is the future of the country.
Maduforo, who spoke on the sideline of the Nigerian Oil and Gas (NOG) Energy Week Conference and Exhibition, said one area the country is focusing on is gas and that Nigeria’s sustainability programme is gas.
He said, “The theme of my parent company is ‘Pioneering Sustainability’ and every group, including the branch in Nigeria, is designed to do just that. That’s what we are doing at the moment.
“One area Nigeria is focusing on is gas, Nigeria’s sustainability program is gas, and we are big on gas commercialization where we can get stranded or flare gas and commercialize them and reduce their output into the environment and then we turn them into good use.
“That is the sustainability that we are focused on which is what the theme of this year’s program is about. Most of our gas engines are actively used to train Nigerian nationals to be able to operate them.
“That is part of our contribution to ensuring that we have a large-scale base of people who can involve in the maintenance of very complex gas machines. We also ensure that we support the government and create employment for the population and young youths in Nigeria.
“I think the challenge is the gestation period for the contracts in Nigeria is too long. The time you put in the bid to the time it comes out is quite challenging because you depend on the projects you have and to be able to continue to sustain the development and expansion plan.
“That makes it difficult to plan because of the delayed feasibility and gestation period of contracts. For me, that’s one of the key areas and hopefully, the new government will address this. The future is looking great for Nigeria’s oil and gas so we can recover from our loss and turn it into a brighter future for tomorrow.”
