BGT Ventures into Eco-Friendly Shipping with Charter of AKTORAS

In a significant move towards sustainability, Bonny Gas Transport Limited (BGT), a subsidiary of Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG), has embarked on a new chapter by chartering the AKTORAS, a cutting-edge vessel designed to reduce carbon emissions.

Established in 1989 to support NLNG’s shipping needs, BGT has played a pivotal role in cementing NLNG’s position as a key player in the global liquefied natural gas (LNG) market. Now, with the charter of AKTORAS, owned by Capital Gas Limited, BGT marks a strategic expansion of its fleet, embracing eco-friendly technologies under a Bareboat Charter agreement.

Equipped with state-of-the-art MEGA propulsion systems aimed at reducing emissions and enhancing efficiency, AKTORAS boasts impressive specifications. With a capacity of 174,000 m3, a length of 299.6 meters, a breadth of 46.40 meters, and a deadweight of 81,194 tons, the vessel is poised to make waves in the LNG transportation sector.

The ceremonial naming of the vessel took place at the Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries shipyard in Mokpo, South Korea, where Mrs. Olu Verheijen, Special Adviser to the Nigerian President on Energy, christened the vessel as the Sponsor Lady and Godmother. This marked the official launch of AKTORAS, set to carry LNG from NLNG’s Bonny Terminal to destinations worldwide.

The event was attended by key figures including Ambassador Ferdinard Nwonye, Dr. Philip Mshelbila, Mr. Olakunle Osobu, and Mr. Abdulkadir Ahmed, signifying the significance of this milestone for both BGT and NLNG.
