Axxela Strengthens Commitment to Energy Security, Industrialisation, and Sustainability in Lagos
Axxela Limited, a foremost provider of gas and power solutions in sub-Saharan Africa, has reaffirmed its dedication to bolstering energy security, driving industrial growth, and championing environmental sustainability in Lagos State.
This pledge was made during a courtesy visit by the company’s leadership to the Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Sanwo-Olu, at the Lagos House, Marina. Through its subsidiary, Gaslink Nigeria Limited, Axxela has pioneered private-sector-led natural gas distribution, significantly expanding Lagos State’s gas infrastructure by over 170km. This network now covers major industrial hubs including Ikeja, Ilupeju, Isolo, Ijora, Apapa, Tin Can, Victoria Island, and Eko Atlantic. Current efforts are also focused on extending the network into the Victoria Island-Lekki corridor, improving energy access, supporting industrialisation, and promoting decarbonisation with cleaner, affordable energy solutions.
The company’s extensive gas distribution network continues to attract new industries, while enabling existing businesses to thrive, thereby stimulating economic growth and increasing tax revenues for public infrastructure development.
Beyond natural gas distribution, Axxela has made remarkable strides in power generation, having developed several Independent Power Projects (IPPs) for the Lagos State Government. These include projects in Akute, Alausa, and Lagos Island, as well as a recently completed 5.8MW IPP for Cadbury Nigeria.
Receiving the Axxela delegation, Governor Sanwo-Olu reiterated his administration’s commitment to providing a business-friendly environment that encourages private investment. He commended Axxela’s role in enhancing Lagos State’s energy framework and sustainability efforts.
Kehinde Alabi, Managing Director of Axxela Gas Distribution, remarked:
“We are proud to play a key role in advancing Lagos State’s energy hub. Lagos is a strategic market for us, and our initiatives directly drive industrialisation while promoting sustainability. Our expansion projects, including the AGI facility in Ikeja and the VI-Lekki corridor, reflect our commitment to delivering reliable, sustainable energy solutions that reduce carbon emissions and empower industries.”
In addition to its core business operations, Axxela is actively involved in social impact initiatives. The company collaborates with LASPARK on annual tree planting campaigns and supports education through its Back-to-School Scholarship Initiative, benefitting hundreds of students in its host communities.
Axxela Limited stands as a pioneer in Nigeria’s private sector natural gas and captive power development space. Co-owned by Helios Investment Partners LLP and Sojitz Corporation, Axxela is a designated shipper on the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP) and a member of the West African Power Pool (WAPP). The company supplies natural gas to nearly 200 industrial and commercial clients through an expansive infrastructure network of over 360km of pipelines. Its energy solutions are delivered via subsidiaries such as Gaslink Nigeria Limited, Gas Network Services Limited, Central Horizon Gas Company Limited, and Transit Gas Nigeria Limited.
