Axxela Announces Leadership Transition: Bolaji Osunsanya Retires, Ogbemi Ofuya Appointed Group CEO
Axxela Limited, a leading energy solutions provider in sub-Saharan Africa, has announced a major leadership transition. Bolaji Osunsanya, the company’s long-serving Chief Executive Officer, is set to retire after more than two decades at the helm. Succeeding him is Ogbemi Ofuya, who assumes the role of Group CEO, bringing a wealth of industry experience and strategic vision to the position.
Osunsanya’s illustrious career spans over 35 years, with the last 20 spent transforming Axxela into an industry leader. Reflecting on his tenure, Board Chairman Boye Olusanya remarked, “Bolaji’s visionary leadership has been instrumental in driving Axxela’s growth and regional expansion. His dedication and innovation have supported industrialization and economic development, leaving an enduring legacy. We wish him every success in his retirement.”
The incoming Group CEO, Ogbemi Ofuya, is no stranger to Axxela, having served on the board and played a pivotal role in Helios Investment Partners’ acquisition of Oando’s interest in the company. Speaking on Ofuya’s appointment, Olusanya expressed confidence in his ability to “reimagine Axxela’s future and lead the company into its next chapter.”
In his farewell address, Osunsanya expressed pride in Axxela’s achievements under his leadership, stating, “It has been a privilege to guide such a talented team. Axxela’s success is a testament to the dedication of its people, and I look forward to its continued growth under Ogbemi’s stewardship.”
Ofuya acknowledged the trust placed in him by the board, saying, “This is an exciting time for Axxela. I am honored to lead the company as we build on the strong foundation laid by Bolaji and his team, exploring new opportunities in the energy sector.”
To ensure a seamless transition, Osunsanya will work closely with Ofuya through December 2024, after which he will continue to contribute to the company as a non-executive director.
