Gabon to Showcase Investment Opportunities at Invest in African Energy Forum Paris, France – March 22, 2024 – Gabon will showcase its dynamic oil and gas sector at the upcoming Invest in African Energy (IAE) forum in Paris, with Minister of Petroleum Marcel Abéké leading the charge. Gabon in the Spotlight Minister Abéké, who also serves as the 2024 President of OPEC, will headline a dedicated "Invest in Gabon" session at the forum. This session will highlight key investment opportunities across Gabon's oil and gas sector, one of Africa's most established yet rapidly growing markets. Increased Production and Recent Successes Since his appointment last September, Minister Abéké has collaborated with the Gabon Oil Company (GOC) to boost the country's oil production. This strategy emphasizes accelerated exploration both onshore and offshore, alongside the redevelopment of mature and marginal fields. These efforts have already yielded significant results. BW Energy recently achieved first oil production from the Hibiscus South Field just five months after discovery, demonstrating the success of their broader Hibiscus/Ruche Phase 1 development. Additionally, GOC's acquisition of Assala Energy's Gabonese assets last February underlines their focus on optimizing mature fields and becoming a more competitive upstream player. Invest in African Energy Forum IAE 2024 serves as a premier platform for connecting African energy markets with global investors. Taking place May 14-15 in Paris, the forum offers two days of intensive interaction with industry experts, project developers, investors, and policymakers. Gabon's Diverse Opportunities The "Invest in Gabon" session will explore the country's most attractive investment opportunities, ranging from frontier exploration and enhanced oil recovery (EOR) techniques to a burgeoning downstream industry. This surge in activity presents exciting prospects for International Oil Companies (IOCs). Upstream highlights include Perenco's appraisal drilling near the Hylia South West discovery and exploration activities led by VAALCO Energy, TotalEnergies, and CNOOC. Downstream developments feature Perenco's $1 billion Cap Lopez LNG terminal, transforming Gabon into a net LNG exporter, alongside a gas-fired power plant in Mayumba. These projects unlock further opportunities in gas processing, transportation, and value-added industries. A Prime Platform for Investment "Gabon is undergoing a comprehensive energy sector revitalization," says Sandra Jeque, Event & Project Director of Energy Capital & Power, IAE 2024 organizers. "From optimizing mature fields to unlocking new offshore discoveries and monetizing gas resources, the country presents a compelling investment landscape. The Invest in Gabon session and the presence of Minister Abéké demonstrate Gabon's commitment to engaging with the global investment community, making IAE 2024 the ideal platform for forging new partnerships."
