The presentation was followed by a panel discussion, which served as a platform for Nigerian voices from oil & gas, renewable energies, public sector, academia, and NGOs to speak about their visions of a Just Transition. The session was closed off by the Head of the German Nigerian Hydrogen office, Ms. Gina LAGUNES, who in her closing statement said, “to ensure future economic stability, Nigeria, as a traditional fossil fuel exporting country with existing oil and gas infrastructure and know-how, can use this trend as a momentum to transition towards sustainable energy”. Ms. LAGUNES further reiterated the Hydrogen Office’s commitment towards providing advisory for the creation of an enabling framework for low-carbon hydrogen, developing capacity in public and private sector, civil society and academia, as well as offering support to private sector and specific projects.

Boss Mustapha calls for support to incoming administration   Addressing the large audience at the State House, President Muhammadu Buhari gave an insight into what his administration had done for the energy industry in the past seven years plus. Before the present administration came into existence, the oil and gas industry was in the dark but it brought innovation and embarked on numerous projects to take the industry to desired level. The President who was represented by Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Federal Government urged Nigerians to give the incoming administration all the needed support that will help move the nation’s energy sector forward since the administration has given the green light and roadmap. He stated that Nigeria International Energy Summit, (N.I.E.S) which was a brain child of the administration has gathered leaders of thoughts and executives of leading Oil and Gas sector to deliberate on the theme: ‘Global Perspectives for a Sustainable Energy Future’. It will be recalled that NIES was organized to bring stakeholders together to chat the way forward for the industry six years ago and it has maintained its stance contributing to the numerous achievements in the Nigerian oil and gas sector. There were goodwill messages from leaders in the oil and gas industry and the top players in the energy industry and leaders of government agencies, such as Abdul-razaq Isa, of the Independent Petroleum Producers Group (IPPG), Rick Kennedy, Managing Director of Chevron Nigeria Limited and Chairman of Oil Producing Trade Section (OPTS), Omar Farouk Ibrahim, Secretary General, Africa Petroleum Producers’ Organization, (APPO), Ambassador Gabriel Aduda, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Simbi Wabote, Executive Secretary, NCDMB among other dignitaries. There was a panel session that was led by Ifeoma Finnih where issues bothering on the industry were discussed by the panelists proffering solutions to gray areas. This was followed by an award night ceremony and outstanding personalities in the industry were awarded for their contributions.
