AMJON Mobilizes Key Maritime Stakeholders for Finance Conference.
The Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) has successfully rallied prominent figures in Nigeria’s maritime sector for its upcoming finance conference. The event is set to take place on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers, Ikeja, Lagos.
This highly anticipated conference will gather influential stakeholders, including Abdulkadir Ahmed, Managing Director of NLNG Shipping and Marine Services Limited (NSML); Dr. Dayo Mobereola, Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA); and Abubakar Dantsoho, Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA). These leaders are expected to deliver insightful presentations on critical topics related to the maritime industry.
The 2024 AMJON Conference, organized in collaboration with NSML, will be chaired by Mr. Abdulkadir Ahmed, who will also present a paper on “Training and Capacity for Sailors and Mariners.” Dr. Mobereola is set to discuss “Actualizing the Vision of the Blue Economy,” while Mr. Dantsoho will deliver a keynote address on “Repositioning The Ports For Greater Efficiency – The NPA Option.”
Financial institutions, including Fidelity Bank PLC, will also participate in the conference. Fidelity Bank will present a session on “Funds For Maritime Infrastructure and National Development – The Fidelity Offers and Packages,” highlighting their commitment to supporting the growth of Nigeria’s maritime sector.
Other notable speakers include Comptroller Babatunde Olomu, Controller of Apapa Customs Command, who will address “Customs Role in Trade Facilitation: Issues and Challenges,” and Comptroller Dera Nnadi, Customs Area Controller of Tin Can Island Command, who will present his insights as the chairman of the Time Release Study.

AMJON President, Mr. Paul Ogbuokiri, emphasized the importance of this year’s conference, stating that it is designed to bring together experts to tackle the pressing challenge of attracting investment and financing to Nigeria’s maritime industry. The conference also aims to support the Federal Government’s efforts to establish the Blue Economy as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s economic diversification.
Chairman of the 2024 Planning Committee, Mr. Kelvin Kagbare, assured that all necessary preparations have been made to ensure the event’s success. He also confirmed that other industry leaders, such as Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, President General of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), and Mr. Emenike Nwokeoji, President of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), are expected to attend.
