All On and USADF Announce New Partnership to Expand Energy Access in Nigeria

All On Partnerships for Energy Access (All On) and the United States African Development Foundation (USADF) have renewed their partnership to increase off-grid energy access in Nigeria, with a special focus on underserved communities. Following their successful collaboration from 2017 to 2022, the organizations have committed $10 million over the next three years to support innovative African-owned businesses providing sustainable energy solutions.

A signing ceremony in New York marked the renewal, with All On CEO Caroline Eboumbou and USADF President and CEO Travis Adkins attending, along with representatives from both organizations. The partnership, which is part of the All On-USADF Nigeria Energy Challenge, aims to invest in off-grid energy companies to expand clean energy access for low-income communities, contributing to Nigeria’s broader socio-economic development. The focus will be on localizing the energy value chain.

During the first cycle of the Challenge, US$3.6 million was provided to 36 companies, which in turn established over 100,000 energy connections and improved the lives of more than 500,000 people through clean energy access.

Travis Adkins, USADF President, highlighted the transformative role of off-grid energy in Nigeria’s rural and underserved regions. He emphasized the positive effects of clean energy technologies in improving health, education, gender inclusion, and economic empowerment.

The renewed funding will target existing grantees as well as new businesses, with USADF providing up to $250,000 in grant funding per project, while All On contributes up to $750,000 through a variety of investment mechanisms. Caroline Eboumbou, CEO of All On, underscored the program’s success and its broader goal of fostering economic growth and lasting development.

Key areas of focus for the partnership include empowering women in energy, boosting agricultural productivity, promoting digital innovation, and addressing energy needs in healthcare and education. The partnership will also support the development of local manufacturing components such as inverters and battery systems, helping to create a sustainable, locally driven energy ecosystem in Nigeria.
